Temperature scales cannot be converted with a single multiplication factor because Celsius and Fahrenheit have different zero points. This tool converts through Celsius and supports Celsius, Fahrenheit, and kelvin.

Example

Freezing point of water

Entering 0 °C and selecting Fahrenheit returns 32 °F; selecting kelvin returns 273.15 K.

How it works

  • Fahrenheit is calculated as °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. Kelvin is calculated as K = °C + 273.15.

Limits and notes

  • Values below absolute zero (−273.15 °C, −459.67 °F, or 0 K) are rejected; each boundary value itself is valid.
  • The conversion does not model measurement uncertainty or temperature-dependent material behavior.

Frequently asked questions

Why does kelvin not use a degree symbol?

The SI unit name is kelvin and its symbol is K, without a degree sign.

At what value are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

Both scales have the same numerical value at −40.
